Erin grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated with an A.B. from University of Chicago in 2011. She received her PhD in Neurobiology from Duke University in 2017 in the lab of Richard Mooney and completed a short post-doc in the lab of Scott Soderling, also at Duke, in 2020. She and her family then moved to Cambridge where she completed a post-doc in the lab of Kerry Ressler at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2023. Miranda Mayeaux (Mira)

PhD Student
she/they

Mira moved to Boston in 2021 to complete her Master's in Clinical Social Work from Boston College. After graduating, Mira spent 2 years working in the field as a psychotherapist for individuals with severe complex PTSD before beginning a position as a research assistant in Dr. Hisey's lab. Mira is currently a graduate student in Boston University's Behavioral Neuroscience PhD program where she continues to study the physiological impacts of childhood trauma on adult brain functioning and social behavior. When she is not in the lab, you can find Mira hiking, browsing local thrift-stores, or grabbing a coffee from a her favorite cafe.

Sunethra Shantha Raman (Suni)

Intern
she/her

Suni is a senior at Boston University majoring in neurobiology. She is an international student from Chennai, India who came to the US for college. She is a part of the MMEDIC program at Boston University and will be pursuing medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine in 2025. Adult CFW

Aggressor
he/him

Born in Charles River Laboratories, Adult CFW spent his youth rolling around in soft bedding and trying to destroy that metal bit on the water bottle in his cage. In early adulthood, Adult CFW became somewhat of a ladies man, leaving him with an unfortunate disdain for other male mice. Due to this, Adult CFW is prone to aggressive outbursts that can be pretty scary for any juvenile male mice in his immediate vicinity.

Connie Pei

Research Assistant
they/she

Connie grew up in Rochester, NY, and earned a B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, they conducted research in the labs of Dr. Soma Sengupta and Dr. Daniel Pomeranz Krummel, working on two main projects: the early development of a machine learning model to predict ligand binding to the GABA-A receptor, and the role of diet, environment, and exercise in cognitive function in the context of integrative oncology.
At the same time, under the guidance of Dr. Shveta Parekh, Connie independently designed and conducted a study on the role of microglia in a female rodent depression model, which earned them highest honors in Neuroscience and a nomination for the Dashiell-Thurston Prize, awarded to the best honors thesis in the field. Overall, Connie’s main research interests lies in the intersection of stress, trauma, and immune function in female brain, leading her now to the TED lab. In their free time, you can find Connie lurking in art museum, vintage markets or sometimes drawing little guys.

Rafay Adnan

Intern
he/him

Rafay is a Junior at Boston University studying Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Machine Learning. He is passionate about Healthcare Engineering and is interested in understanding the ways in which trauma changes brain development and manifests in behavior. He grew up in Madison, WI, where his love for designing and building led him to start a robotics team that competed in the First Tech Challenge in high school, sparking his interest in engineering. In college, he serves as the Outreach Coordinator of BUILDS, an independent hackerspace at BU’s Center for Data Science, and is active in climate change advocacy through Epsilon Eta, an environmental science fraternity. In his free time, Rafay enjoys reading and going on walks, often using these moments to reflect on his studies.

Baby Black 6

Target
he/him

Born in Jackson Laboratories, Baby Black 6 chose to skip the dilly-dallying and get straight to work. Baby Black 6 is super social and desperately needs to hangout with Adult CFW. Unfortunately, Baby Black 6 is not aware of Adult CFW's anger issues which makes his typical social approach a major trigger point in their relationship.
